Located in the middle of the Tennessee Valley, Redstone Arsenal is a great place to live. Children of all ages enjoy the rich variety of outdoor activities provided here. The Tennessee River, which borders the Arsenal on the south, is made to order for those who enjoy fishing, hunting, boating, water skiing, picnicking, hiking, biking, or just sitting and enjoying the scenery.
Huntsville, Alabama, a city of about 158,000 residents, borders the Arsenal to the East and North and serves as the area's health and educational center. Fine shopping, schools, and professional facilities make Huntsville a very desirable place to live. Its Von Braun Center draws many shows for a full entertainment package. You should have no problem finding something to do during off-hours. We hope the following information will help you settle into the community.

Families new to Redstone and need assistsance with issues on youth registration in local school systems should contact our School Liaison Services officer at 876-7801 or visit Building 1500 Weeden Mountain Road. They can assist with a wide range of resources to facilitate Army youth education transitions. Email is schoolliaisonsvcs@redstone.army.mil.

We also have a Waiting Spouses group open to all geographically seperated spouses. They meet a couple of times a week for a social event such as going out to dinner (free childcare). They also have a Talk Time session with a social worker from Behavioral Medicine once a month on any topic of interest. Please contact Kristi Foster about signing up. The Redstone Thrift Shop
The Redstone Thrift Shop located in building 3209 Hercules Rd. is open for shopping Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9-4,Thursdays from 9-5 Walk-in consignment hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9-12:30. For more information please call 881-6992.Directions: Take the Patton Gate south, turn immediately right onto Hercules Rd. Military Clothing Sales and I.D. are across the street.
Checking In
If you are assigned to the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, check in with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, AMCOM, Redstone Arsenal Support Activity in Building 3206, Little John Road from the hours of 0900 - 1100 Monday - Friday. If you are assigned to the U.S. Army Ordnance Missile and Munitions Center and School as a permanent party, check in at Building 3300. If you are a student, check in at Battalion S-1 Building 3458. During holidays and weekends, both permanent party and students should check in at Building 3300.
Permanent Party Housing
Combined commands located on or near Redstone Arsenal make up a military community of about 1,900 permanent party personnel. Redstone has an inventory of 350 privatized family housing units owned and operated by Redstone Communities whose office is located in Building 110 Hankins Road. Their inventory consist of 82 officer units and 268 enlisted units, including some quarters that rival the best facilities in the local community.
In addition, the privatized family housing includes two, three and four bedroom units. All quarters have central air conditioning, dishwashers, ranges, and refrigerators. Facilities include single, duplex, multiplex, and one and two story buildings. All permanent party soldiers accompanied by their families and assigned within the commuting area of Redstone Arsenal are eligible for family housing. Students assigned to OMEMS for courses that are 20 weeks or longer, may also qualify for on-post family housing.
Facilities are also available for permanent party single soldiers (bonafide bachelors). For assistance, visit the Housing Services Office in Building 3207 or call (256) 842-9193 or DSN 788-9193.
Assistance in locating off-post accommodations is available for all active duty military, retirees, and DoD civilian personnel. You can visit the Housing Services Office located in Building 3207, or call (256) 842-0422 or DSN 788-0422 for off-post assistance with housing.

"Hotel Redstone" offers all official and leisure travelers a variety of guesthouse quarters, suites, and cottages with a 235+ capacity. There are 24 two-bedroom cottages for families with pets, 22 guesthouse units, and 130 single efficiencies for official government travelers. Our cottages and visitors quarters also have full amenities and maid service. Guesthouse units have two full-size beds and small refrigerators, with some having full kitchenettes. "Hotel Redstone" is available for leisure travel on a space-available basis. No matter what your need is for lodging, we can accommodate you. Automobile Registration
Alabama allows soldiers to use their home state driver's license and car plates, or any combination of the two. When applying for a post vehicle decal, you must provide proof of automobile ownership (such as title or bill of sale), a valid driver's license, a military ID card or civilian badge, and proof of insurance. The registration section is located in Building 3423.
