MWR Category B facilities such as this multi-crafts center are becoming more and more "rare finds" around the Army. At Redstone, we are proud to be one of the few MWRs still offering such a fine and diverse program of skills development for you all, your families, and most importantly, our soldiers and civilians who work so hard here in defense of our great nation.
If you've never built an Adirondack chair or maybe just a bird house with your kids, matted and framed a family photo or nice print, tried your hand at stained glass, or held a wet paint brush in front of an empty board or canvas..... it doesn't matter, because You Can Do It!!! Our staff at the Hughes center can help you learn how too. You can't imagine how much better you feel about yourself for having learned a new craft or skill, not to mention the dose of pride you get each time you use that newly acquired skill to "do it YOURSELF." (Plus, when you do it yourself, you save a bundle of money!)
The Redstone Arsenal June M. Hughes Arts and Crafts Center has something for everyone! This multi crafts shop provides instruction, equipment, and supplies for the hobbyist that is interested in stained glass, painting, woodworking, engraving, matting and framing and much more. Specialty classes are also held often in holiday crafts and basket weaving!
As a society, Americans are into arts and crafts! A recent study commissioned by the Hobby Industries of America shows for the last four years, four out of five households in the country include a family member who "crafts."
This in not news to the Army, where, for more than 50 years, the arts and crafts program has offered opportunities for creativity, self enrichment, skill development, and lifetime leisure learning.
The June M. Hughes Arts and Crafts center offers a safe workspace, industrial quality, and safety inspected equipment. Instructors and a supply store are located on the premises.
Come and check out the Arts and Center Crafts center yourself where a variety of classes, modern equipment, and plentiful materials are available at very reasonable rates.
Enjoy this MWR Activity!
