CYSS Services recognizes the stress that longer and multiple deployments puts on Army Families and that the support they need includes liaison with schools to ensure positive relationships with the schools attended by Army youth!
Ages 5 - 10 (Kindergarten thru 5th grades) years Army School Age Services include before and after school programs, weekend activities during the school year, summer care, and camps during school vacations. Through partnerships with groups such as National 4-H, Character Counts and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, installations help children learn to work with their strengths, interests, and each other, to feel good about themselves, and to grow as individuals. Programs are offered in the core areas of leisure, recreation, and the arts; sport and fitness; life skills, citizenship and leadership; and mentoring and support services.
School Age Services (SAS) has been accredited by the National School-Age Care Alliance (NSACA) since March 2001. NSACA Accreditation symbolizes a commitment to quality school-age care. SAS met or exceeded NSACA's requirements for accreditation based on 144 Quality Standards for Quality School -Age Care. These Standards describe the best practices in after school programs. They are focused on 6 Keys to Quality: Human Relationships, Indoor Environment, Outdoor Environment, Activities, Safety Health and Nutrition and Administration. NSACA is now known as the National AfterSchool Association (NAA). SAS was re-accredited by NAA in January 2006.
School Age Services has been an active unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs since November, 2001. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America promote positive youth development through the provision of opportunities for young people to develop the skills they will need to become successful and contributing members of our communities. These are offered in programs that fall under the four service areas. The areas are Sports and Fitness/Health, Arts, Leisure & Recreation, Life Skills, Citizenship & Leadership, and Academic Support, Mentoring and Intervention.
As a 4-H Club, School Age Services provides organized, structured, and directed learning opportunities. With research-based, informal, hands-on educational experiences, 4-H helps children and young people become responsible and productive citizens in their communities. SAS offers opportunities for Citizenship, photography, and fine arts.
