Army Family Team Building is a Family training and readiness program that provides participants with an understanding of Army culture and the skills and resources they need to become self-reliant, self-sufficient members of the military community. AFTB helps members of the Army Family adapt to Army life, manage change and embrace challenges.

The AFTB mission is to educate and empower members of the military community to develop skills and behaviors that strengthen self-reliance, promote retention and enhance readiness. AFTB strives to provide pro-active, forward thinking support for today's families and ensure the strength of tomorrow's Army.

The Army Family consist of Active duty, Army National Guard, Army Reserve and their Families, Retirees, Department of Army civilians and the Community that supports all of the above.

  • Level I - Learn

    Level I provide basic information and skills. It teaches military terms, acronyms, customs and courtesies, chain of command, military and community resources, basic benefits and entitlements, expectations and impact of the mission on family life, introduction to family readiness groups, introduction to financial readiness, basic problem solving and support your child's education.

  • Level II - Grow

    Level II is targeted toward emerging leaders within the Army Community. Level II focuses on communication, time management, stress management, acknowledging change, exploring personality traits, enhancing personal relationships, team dynamics, personal conflict management, creative problem solving, traditions, customs and courtesies, protocol, coping and grieving, the volunteer experience, family readiness groups and introduction to leadership.

  • Level III - Lead

    Level III courses offer training to enhance the professional growth and leadership development especially for those individuals who may assume leadership roles within the community or unit. Level III concentrates on communication skills for leaders, understanding needs, managing group conflict, leader assisted problem solving, delegation for leaders, building a cohesive team, meeting management, coaching and mentoring and family readiness group leadership.

Instructor Training

The Instructor Training course allows you the opportunity to improve Platform Skills. If you are interested in volunteering to become an instructor for the AFTB program or want to develop new skills or enhance old ones. Topics covered include: AFTB overview, classroom management, platforms skills, learning skills, methods of instruction, instructional aides, and the planning process. Contact ACS for class schedule, however AFTB classes are usually available from 6:00-9:00 pm, three nights a week. Childcare and dinner is available each night. Accommodations can be made to provide classes during special days and times and select classes can be presented .
