Driver’s Licenses and Vehicle Registration
When stationed in Alabama, military personnel may use their home state driver’s license and license plates when operating vehicles on state roadways. Active-duty, retirees and civilian and contractor employees moving to the Redstone Arsenal community permanently must obtain an Alabama driver’s license and car tags and title within 30 days of residency. For your convenience, a county and state licensing satellite office is located in the One Stop. You can also obtain licenses at the Madison County courthouse and at satellite locations listed at www.co.madison.al.us. For more information, call (256) 882-8698. The state also issues licenses and conducts driver’s tests at its Huntsville office, 1115-A Church St. For more information, call (256) 539-0681. When driving a vehicle on Redstone Arsenal, drivers must have a current state vehicle registration, a valid driver’s license, a military ID card or civilian badge, and proof of insurance. There are two registration sites on Redstone: the Visitor Center at Gate 9/Building 4122, Rideout Road, and the Visitor Center at Gate 1/ Building 5105, Martin Road. The Army at Redstone Arsenal offers two Child Development Centers for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. The centers offer full-day and hourly care for children in stimulating environments that develop motor, cognitive, social and emotional skills through a balance of exploration and planned curriculum. Learning activities are designed to support the natural development of children and include individual, small group and large group experiences. NASA offers an additional Child Development Center on the Arsenal; it is available to anyone who has access to Redstone Arsenal.
The Army CDCs are open to children of active-duty military, DOD civilians and contractors, Reservists and full-time National Guard. Monthly tuition fees are based on a sliding scale of six income categories. Income categories are based on Total Family Income and are standardized throughout the Department of Defense.

Education and Schools
Children living on Redstone Arsenal attend schools in Huntsville. Huntsville City Schools provides transportation to Williams Elementary and Middle Schools, Columbia High School, the Academy for Academics and Arts and the Academy for Science and Foreign Language. Additionally, Child, Youth and School Services provides busing to several city and county schools for children enrolled in its afterschool programs. Special accommodations are available for disabled students. Children entering kindergarten or first grade must have a certified copy of a birth certificate and a Social Security Card. Also, all children entering the Huntsville public schools for the first time must have an Alabama immunization certificate (Blue Card). Military shot records will not be accepted. The certificate can be obtained at the Arsenal medical facility, from private physicians in Huntsville or from the Health Department. The certificate will remain in the child’s folder, which will follow the child from school to school. Redstone-Garrison provides a School Liaison Services officer who can assist parents and children with becoming familiar and integrated in the local school systems. The School Liaison Services office is located at Building 1500 and can be reached at (256) 842-9642, Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Army Education Center

The Army Education Center provides adult educational opportunities, job counseling, testing services and on-post college courses for Arsenal Soldiers, civilians, retirees and family members. The center oversees on-post college courses offered in the evenings by Alabama A&M University, Athens State University, Columbia College, Embry Riddle Aeronautics University and Florida Institute of Technology. The center, now located in Building 3222 on Snooper Road, will soon relocate to the new education center at Toftoy Hall, Building 3495, at the corner of Patton and Aerobee roads near Gate 10. The center can be reached at 876-9761. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m and Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There are several colleges, universities and trade schools within a short drive of Redstone Arsenal. All offer full- and part-time study. The University of Alabama in Huntsville, Calhoun Community College, Alabama A&M University, Oakwood College, J.F.
Drake State Technical College and several schools specializing in business training are all located in Huntsville. There are several local and nearby universities and colleges that offer undergraduate and graduate courses to Soldiers, civilians and family members.

Health care for military families, both active duty and retired, is provided through the USA MEDDAC, which operates the ambulatory care clinic Fox Army Health Center (FAHC). The mission of the health center is “inspiring those who serve our nation and their families, past and present, to live a lifetime of wellness.” It is striving to become the premier model of organizational and beneficiary wellness through the Army’s medical community. The center provides primary care services, pharmacy, dental clinic, eye clinic, wellness clinic and behavioral health clinic. DoD Civilians are eligible for some services as well, especially health education services for disease management and health improvement. The clinic for Occupational Medicine provides services for DoD Civilians.
The Marshall Space Flight Center has its own limited-capability Medical Clinic. While not a primary care clinic like FAHC, the NASA Medical Clinic does provide voluntary annual physicals for the NASA civilian work force. Additionally, they offer monitoring/surveillance physicals for their civilians and those on-site contractors performing hazardous occupations. HEMSI paramedics are also on site.

Shopping on Redstone Arsenal is within walking distance of the housing area. It features the main Exchange and the Commissary, plus several small shops, are all together in a covered mall area, under one roof. The Military Clothing Sales Store and the Furniture Store are located inside the Exchange. In the general vicinity is a convenience store (Shoppette/Class VI/Gas), branch bank, credit union and an automotive retail/service center. Huntsville has several shopping centers and malls, all within a short drive from the Arsenal.

The Religious Support Office provides religious services for Soldiers, DA civilians and their Families. Worship services, educational opportunities and pastoral care are available at Bicentennial Chapel located on Goss Road. The arsenal’s chapel offers a full range of Protestant and Roman Catholic religious programs, as well as active youth programs, music programs, religious education classes and more. The entrance into the chapel features stained glass depicting Gen. George Washington with his soldiers at Valley Forge. The entrance to the sanctuary has the overhead view of the Greek letters of the Alpha and Omega. Fourteen stained glass windows dedicated in July 1992 line the sanctuary and commemorate the 13 original states, while additional windows commemorate high points of U.S. history. The Catholic Parish also offers the following services -- First Communion and Confirmation Classes; Right of Christian Initiation of Adults classes; Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes and Catholic Youth of the Chapel activities. Catholic parishioners can participate in choir (rehearsal is Sundays at 8:30 a.m. with Mass at 9 a.m. Sundays and on special occasions), Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Ministers of Hospitality, Good Samaritan Ministry and Helping Hand Ministry; they can participate as lectors and altar servers at Mass.

The Religious Support Office provides counseling and worship services, assists with administrative actions such as compassionate reassignments, hardship discharges and conscientious objector interviews, provides accommodations for religious practice for all faith groups (whenever possible) and helps with death notifications.
There are numerous recreational facilities and quality of life programs offered at Redstone Arsenal for the military (including Guard and Reservists), Federal/DoD/DA civilian employees, Marshall Space Flight Center employees, those with Redstone Arsenal and MSFC contracts, as well as their family members. One of the great benefits of working at Redstone Arsenal, or working for a company doing business with the arsenal, is that you are granted access to Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) services and facilities.
